G20 Summit 2023

The 18th G20 Summit 2023 for Heads of State and Government is scheduled to occur in New Delhi on September 9-10, 2023. This summit will be the final event in a series of G20 meetings that have taken place throughout the year, involving ministers, senior officials, and civil societies. At the end of the New Delhi Summit, the G20 Leaders will adopt a declaration that confirms their dedication to the priorities discussed and agreed upon during the various ministerial and working group sessions.

G20 Summit 2023 Theme & Logo

The G20 emblem takes inspiration from India’s national flag, featuring the vibrant hues of saffron, white, green, and blue. It juxtaposes the planet Earth with the lotus, India’s national flower that represents growth in the face of challenges. The Earth signifies India’s pro-planet lifestyle, one that is in complete harmony with nature. The Devanagari script beneath the G20 emblem reads “Bharat.”

The theme of India’s G20 Presidency, “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” or “One Earth · One Family · One Future,” is derived from the ancient Sanskrit text of the Maha Upanishad. The theme emphasizes the worth of all life forms- human, animal, plant, and microorganisms- and their interconnectedness on the planet Earth and beyond.

G20 Presidency

The G20 presidency rotates annually among its member countries, and each host country is responsible for organizing the G20 summit and related meetings in its own territory. In addition to the annual summit, the G20 also holds several ministerial meetings and working group meetings throughout the year to discuss specific economic issues. These meetings are usually held in various locations around the world, depending on the host country’s preference and logistical considerations.

The G20 operates through a “troika” system that includes the current, previous, and next G20 presidencies, which work together to ensure continuity and consistency in the group’s priorities and initiatives.

The 17th Group of 20 (G20) Summit for Heads of State and Government will take place in Bali, Indonesia, in October 2022. The G20, under the Indonesian Presidency, will center on the theme of ‘Recover Together, Recover Stronger’ in 2022.

The Leaders’ Summit is the highlight of the G20 process and follows a year of intensive work involving Ministerial Meetings, Working Groups, and Engagement Groups.

The Indonesian Presidency recognizes the far-reaching consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic on all aspects of society and the inability of several countries to tackle the crisis effectively. Consequently, the G20 2022 Presidency will focus on three primary pillars:

1. Global health architecture
2. Sustainable energy transition
3. Digital transformation

Indonesia aims to continue to lead efforts to ensure equal access to COVID-19 vaccinations and promote sustainable and inclusive economic growth through the participation of micro-, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), and the digital economy through these pillars.
